Limits are needed to alleviate some of the strain on the behind-the-scenes part of Twitter and reduce downtime and error pages. Text Length Limits Username (Handle): 15 char. Display Name: 50 char. Bio: 160 char. Post: 280 char. (increased from 140 char in Sept 2017) The post 280-char count includes hashtags and URLs. The URL is wrapped to 23-char shortened URL. Thus, if you include a URL in tweet, it will take 23 chars no matter how long it is. Activity (Technical) Limits Tweets: 2,400 per day. (This limit is further broken down into semi-hourly intervals.)
